Women Hair Loss: WHY?

Hair loss in women is actually more common than expected. There are many potential causes of hair loss in women , including medical conditions, medications, and physical or emotional stress.

Women hair loss is many times more complicated than men. It can be very devastating to a woman's self esteem, confidence and well being overall.

It is  estimate that roughly 50% of the women population have experienced some sort of hair loss by the time they reach age 50. This is especially true when hair loss runs in your family.

While hormone also plays a big factor when it comes to women hair loss, external factors also need to be considered. Paraphenylenediamine or PPD : Avoid using PPD based hair dyes at all cost especially if you have a genetic predisposition to hair loss in the first place. Allergic reactions and scalp inflammatory conditions as a result of PPD over time can further accelerates their hair loss.

It's a common misconception that hair grows from the ends. This myth has come about from the widespread understanding that trimming your ends helps grow longer hair.

Your scalp has about 100,000 hairs. Each 100,000  has its own life cycle. Remember, each hair follicle produces a single hair that grows at a rate of half an inch per month. It remains in scalp for 2 to 6 years, then stops for about a month. When the next cycle starts up, that hair falls out. At any given time, most of our hair  are in the growth phase.

Most people shed about 50-100 strands every day. Don’t worry if you find a few in your hairbrush or on your clothes. But if it starts to fall out in clumps or if you notice it getting thinner over time, check with your doctor.
