Occupational Therapist , Integrative Nutritionist and Gut Health Coach
Leaky Gut and Autoimmune Disease
"Leaky gut" is a condition that many people are beginning to hear more about and is sometimes called intestinal permeability. Autoimmune disorders are now affecting one out of seven Americans and include conditions such as arthritis, thyroid diseases, skin conditions like psoriasis, and degenerative neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and many, many more. But did you know that these conditions are very closely connected?
This lecture focuses on how autoimmune diseases can be reversed by healing our gut, eliminating specific foods from our diets and limiting our exposure to certain environmental toxins. Many are surprised to learn that their gut health needs to be repaired even when there is an absence of “obvious” gut symptoms. This lecture highlights the upstream thinking of Functional Medicine, focusing on root causes and lifestyle changes that help support the body’s ability to heal itself.
